And so it goes

Heroes was AMAZING last night - but I still experienced DVR problems. I don't understand. I was watching the end of the Labor Day Marathon of Anthony Bourdain No reservations before going over to Shaine's to watch Heroes and my DVR was to record both Gossip Girl and The Big Bang Theory - and Big Bang Theory didn't record... I tried to hit record and start it up, to no avail.

Now, I know I am a TV-aholic, but it frustrates me when my shows aren't recorded as they are supposed to be. DVR is supposed to help me not feel chained down to the TV and it is making me angry. First you eff with Survivor and now The Big Bang Theory. Thank goodness I can get them online.

Did you hear about Survivor last week? If my DVR had recorded it, I could have seen it but one of the guys was "exposed" in a challenge and CBS didn't pick it up until YESTERDAY. PORN ON CBS! hehehehehe. Nonetheless, I missed it.

We've got a winner

It was a rainy Saturday at the Salisbury Green Resident Appreciation day - but not in Katie's world. I won a $25 gift certificate to Wal-mart, a $15 gift certificate to Dunkins and a $15 gift certificate to Shaw's. I like to be a winner. I gave the Wal-mart card to Shaine to get groceries and then the lady sitting next to me helped me with part of my answer on one of the games so I gave her the Shaw's card... I thought that was thoughtful too, I didn't need to win all of the games, right?

After the BBQ with yummy ribs from Beefside, Shaine and I dropped his girls off at their Grandparents and we went BOWLING... Little balls, which I am not a fan of - I LIKE THE BIGGINS - but that's okay - we had a great time. Shaine kicked my sorry arse all three strings - but it was so much fun. Glow Bowling? I have never done that before. At first I thought that was the kind where they put the bumpers up, in retrospect I would have needed that as I guttered a lot - but oh well. I kept the score sheet for posterity's sake and asked Shaine last night after he beat me TWICE at cribbage if we could play something that maybe I have a chance of winning. He asked what would that be and I said I HAVE NO IDEA. Seriously - even if we went to the batting cages, something he has never done, I am sure he would rock it.

After losing to Shaine in Cribbage we had dinner - Pizza Hut's Tuscani pasta - YOU HAVE GOT TO TRY THE BACON MAC n CHEESE (and yes I am yelling) it was Fan-freakin-tastic! We also watched Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay! Very funny. I think I liked it better then the first one!

So, a great weekend was had by me. Even though it was rainy and hurricaning out, it was SO enjoyable.

DVR WTF?

Okay - I have been a loyal fan of the DVR since its inception - and last night I wanted to throw it off the balcony.

My friends had a similar issue on Monday with Heroes. I went to watch the recorded 2 hour premiere of Survivor - my favorite TV show and it wasn't on there - ABSOLUTELY NO REASON WHY IT SHOULDN'T have been. I think a ghost from Ghost Hunters has infiltrated my DVR and doesn't want me to watch Survivor any more.

Hopefully I can find this episode on demand or online - but I have NEVER missed an episode of Survivor... EVER!

Heroes

WOW! I have noticed that a lot of the fall premiere shows HAVE TO BE 2 hour long dealies. Well, last night was heroes - I AM SO CONFUSED. I think Heroes season finale was before the writer's strike last year - so it has been a long time since it was on and I have forgotten a lot of the facts and there they go and just change it all up.

Did anyone else watch it last night? Could you shed any light on this because I am so confused. With out giving anything away:

  • Suresh is an IDIOT
  • Sylar is hot
  • KILL THE CHEERLEADER ALREADY
  • Peter Petrelli is just a fame hog so he has to be in EVERY SCENE
  • How many OTHER things can happen to Nathan Petrelli?

Okay - I think that is all I have right now - but seriously... SERIOUSLY.

Farm Aid 2008

I guess I am an idiot - I thought Farm Aid was a tour - and then to realize that we got to witness the one and only FARM AID performance, the 23rd of its kind - I was humbled.

We got to see Jerry Lee Lewis - looked old, didn't even get up from his piano, and we were waiting for it to go ablaze. It was about 4 or 5 songs per performer. However, Willie Nelson did more, I think. He did BEER FOR OUR HORSES and wrapped in a green sleeping bag, I jumped up and down like it was Christmas morning and I just got the gift of my dreams.

What a fun day had by all - we got there, grilled, sat down and chilled and then went into the show. No issues whatsoever. If every day could be so fun!

Grace is Gone - best dave song ever - in honor of Farm Aid tomorrow

Neon shines through smokey eyes tonight
It's 2 A.M., I'm drunk again
And it's heavy on my mind

I could never love again
So much as I love you
Where you end, where I begin
Is like a river running through

Take my heart, take my eyes
I need them no more
If never again they fall
Upon the one I so adore...

Excuse me please, one more drink
Could you make it strong?
'Cause I don't need to think
She broke my heart
My Grace is Gone
Another drink and I'll be gone

One drink to remember
Then another to forget
I think of every day to find
A love like you again

One drink to remember
And another to forget

Excuse me please, one more drink
Could you make it strong?
'Cause I don't need to think
She broke my heart
My Grace is Gone
Another drink and I'll be gone
One more drink and I'll move on

You think of things impossible
Then the sun refuse to shine
I woke with you beside me
Your cold hand lay in mine

Excuse me please, one more drink
Could you make it strong?
'Cause I don't need to think
She broke my heart
My Grace is Gone
Another drink and I'll go...

Excuse me please, one more drink
Could you make it strong?
'Cause I don't need to think
She broke my heart
My Grace is Gone
Another drink and I'll move on
One more drink and I'll move on
One more drink, my grace is gone

And the Award goes to...

That's right - I have received two awards at work - within two weeks- for my excellent customer service!

Yesterday I got a telephone call from a Customer singing my praises so I immediately asked her if I could transfer her to my manager. My manager sent out an email to myself and our HEAD BOSS saying:

Katie,

I received the following compliment from **** (I'm not putting her name in my blog)

Thank you for providing Excellent Customer Service!

I have been working with Katie Mills (current adjuster on case.)
I just want to let you know.
Because of Katie Mills we are actually looking at an end to this.
She has been a great help to us, and getting our employee released to return to work.
Katie is doing a fantastic job.

So, today in our meeting I received my award and recognition for being a great worker. A few weeks back I received another award because one our our defense attorney's advised another co-worker and then myself how much the NH Department of Labor enjoys working with me. (I can't find the email, it must be archived) Oh ya. I rock...

As a former boss used to say - TOOT YOUR OWN HORN WHEN YOU DO SOMETHING WELL... so TOOT TOOT!

always the funny gal

I was thinking the other day that a lot of overweight women lean towards being the funny girl. I wonder if it is "our way" of fitting in? A lot of times it is very self-deprecating - but I feel it is much better to make fun of oneself before someone else does...

Why is it that we think we have to be silly? Or is that our niche? Like I LOVE making people laugh, I actually think it is my defense mechanism. When the going gets tough, Katie will break the ice, or Katie will say something light hearted to bring a smile out. I know I am a goof ball and that I am just full blown odd, but what made me want to be a silly goose?

It can't be the fat cells, can it?

Negotiations

Yesterday I was in negotiation training all day. It is the first time that I was in a class that I enjoyed the instructor and the instruction techniques. EXCEPT there was a girl in our training that had to comment after every single statement that the Instructor made.

It reminded me of the continuing ed students at KSC - that had to share their life story to the whole class every five seconds. Specifically, there was a woman in my class of Social Psychology (Jocelyn can attest to this woman) who was just an over sharer...

I hope when I start my master's program at SNHU I don't turn into that lady.

Givin it the good ole college try

So, I am in so much pain today - and I am sucking it up and trying to work. Don't know if that is a smart idea. So, please send me happy thoughts today.

Sorry I have been MIA

What a crazy week! I only worked about one and a half days this past week. I have tendinitis in my right shoulder and that has been very uncomfortable...

Don't worry I will be back in full swing (so to speak, minus the tendinitis) on Monday.

The VMA's Sucked eggs thru a straw

I haven't watched the VMA's in years - but back in the day they were awesome. This year was the 25th anniversary of the VMA's and there could have been so many different things they could have done to commemorate this anniversary - but they didn't.

They did make it a point to say that Brit hadn't won a VMA ever - and won she did last night, she won THREE TIMES - and I think it was rigged as like a publicity stunt or something. Per my Yoda, Pepsi sponsored the VMA's and Brit used to have a contract w/ them - coincidence, I think not.

Also, I was informed that the radio was saying that Brit wouldn't have shown up if she didn't know she was winning. I agree. Up until the last minute, we thought she was performing, hence watching the DAMN SHOW.

I was partially psyched to see Christina Aguliera and I think she was lip syncing and she did a Marilyn Manson-esque version of Genie in a Bottle. She looked good, but I wasn't impressed w/ her performance of a bubble gum song, SUPER BITCH -with cape and everything, like it was a super hero.

I was also disappointed that there was no mention of the passing of Leroi - I think The Dave Matthews Band has won a VMA here or there, so I found that quite rude.

I would ask for my money back on that show. PINK WAS THE BEST PART OF THE WHOLE NIGHT AND I CAN'T WAIT TIL HER ALBUM COMES OUT. She did have a slight wardrobe malfunction, but it was okay. SHE MADE THE WHOLE DAMN SHOW WORTH WHILE.

I am interested in hearing what anyone else has to say who watched it so PLEASE COMMENT!

I'm no spring chicken

I am definitely feeling older than my years. As Garth says, "I'm much to young to feel this damn old!" After moving (and still bringing boxes up and down stairs) and then three games *tonight will be the third* game in a row, my body hurts in places I didn't know possible.

I should be so proud of myself for playing awesomely the last two games. Last night I hit a double and made some great plays and ran like a mofo, but my knees and legs are taking a toll.

ONE MORE TO GO TONIGHT and another one Monday and then we have Playoffs and tournament...

I should get an award this year for driving from Bedford/Concord to Dover to play!

Finally! I made the write up

After 10 softball games and playing my best softball ever this year, I finally made the write up. I had been in one previously but lately I hadn't been included - LAST NIGHT CHANGED THAT:

Hey guys!!
It was history last night.. The Batta-Bings defeated Primetime, bringing our record back to .500 at 5-5. You never know.. we could end up with a better record than last season's 7-6..
Who was that Batta-Bing infield last night?!?! It was amazing!! Kevin is loving the hot corner at 3rd, and Jess was making great scoops and catches at 1st.. The ever solid tandem of Eric and Jason at SS was brilliant as usual.. But 'star-of-the-day' had to go to Ms. Katie Mills at 2nd base! She had some great stops, catches, tags and throws.. It was beautiful to watch!! And no swearing- very big step Katie! :)
What can I say about our outfield?? I'm beginning to take you all for granted out there- no matter who I put there- or where I put you- you all make great stops, catches and throws.. Our defense is really stepping up!! Love it!!

Oh ya - you see that? Can we say STAR OF THE DAY?????!!!!!! YAY. So, two more games tonight and tomorrow - let's see if I can kick arse once again and NOT SWEAR either.

FALL TV SCHEDULE BEGINS

So, last night I was able to watch Prison Break, Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill - and tonight is the first episode of 90210 (which I am going to try out and see). It was so awesome to have something new to watch other than reruns of reality shows on Bravo and E!

However, the bus schedule on the back road to work kind of stinks.

Laundry ettiquette

So, I did laundry today. The first time in my new building - mind you I haven't even completely moved in yet - like stuff still in storage - but I needed work clothes. So, I get down there and what a debacle.

A dryer had clothes in it - done. Then a washer had a basket w/ money and a dryer sheet on it, just waiting to go in the dryer.

So, at around 1ish (mind you it is 4:49pm and I just finished laundry, now I need to fold - my favorite part) I used one washer and one dryer. By the 2nd load, I was fed up and put random person's clothes in the dryer w/ aforementioned dryer sheet and used their quarters to start it up... YOU'RE FREAKIN WELCOME. I took the other clothes that were dry just waiting to be removed and put them on the table.

I didn't want to touch other people's clothes - dry or clean - but geesh, I feel guilty when I am minutes late to get my laundry out of the machine. When I do laundry I set an alarm to go down every twenty minutes to put in fabric softener and all that jazz.

I wish I had a laundry room right in my apartment. I used to three apartments ago. It was awesome. I MISS IT GREATLY.

So, I ask you, what would you have done?
